A Short Introduction to Logic
This 6 week course provides a brief introduction to 'philosophical logic', the study of the key concepts involved in reasoning and argument. Topics covered include 'the Liar's Paradox', 'The Principle of Bivalence' and 'The Sorites Paradox and Vagueness'. Reasoning and argument plays an essential part in all philosophical enquiry, so it is wise to gain an understanding of these concepts early in a philosophical education. Philosophical logic should be distinguished from 'formal' or 'symbolic logic, which is a method for translating natural language arguments into symbols, then assessing their validity with a set of rules.
