Epistemology
This 10 week course investigates the philosophical problems surrounding the nature of knowledge, which have continued to puzzle philosophers from antiquity to the present day. We could not get through life without some reliance on our beliefs and senses, but how do we know such beliefs are justified or true? To take a famous, and extreme, example: how do we know the outside world exists and 'we' are not just brains suspended in a vat? The lectures and seminars will provide an introduction to these and other questions, as well as the opportunity to learn and discuss some famous 'answers' to them.
Please note that in order to keep seminars productive and manageable there is a strict limit of 15 places on the course.
